Tiffany Christensen has been a patient since she was born. She understands better than most that the crucial exchange between the patient, their family, and the provider is very delicate and, in some cases, very difficult.

In a new 5-minute Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI) video, Christensen describes what a true partnership looks like between a patient and provider – one in which both the patient and the provider are candid and honest with each other.

A patient advocate who also serves as the Co-Chair of Duke University Health System’s Patient Advocacy Council, Christensen is a faculty member for IHI’s Patient Safety Executive Development Program.

Part of her role during the program is to share with participants one of the best ways to engage with patients in improving safety – that is, improving the way we listen to patients and their concerns.
