Patients Can Choose Home Health Care Provider

Aging in Place

Health care advances have made it easier, safer and more cost-effective to receive skilled nursing care and therapy in the convenience of one’s home. And, under Medicare laws, patients have the right to choose the health care provider they want through the Medicare home health benefit.

If a doctor, hospital discharge planner, or other agency determines a patient needs home health care, that patient can choose the agency they want as long as that agency is Medicare-certified and serves the patient’s geographic location. However, some managed care plans require patients to receive home health care only from agencies with which they contract. It’s advised that patients consult their health care provider for questions regarding the Medicare Home Health Benefit.
