Memory Lapse or Dementia?

As we age, we often become more forgetful. We may misplace the car keys or forget why we entered a room.

In fact, at least half of those over age 65 say that they are more forgetful than they were when they were younger, experiencing “senior moments” about things like where they put things or recalling somebody’s name, reports the Fisher Center for Alzheimer’s Research Foundation.

Can we chalk up our memory lapses to the harmless side effects of increasing maturity? Or do these memory lapses represent something more serious, like the beginning stages of dementia?
